4th
I’ve found it interesting to see that people on-line are upset about Stevie Wonder singing Happy Birthday to QEII while saying how embarrassing this is because it’s not her birthday.
The Queen gets two birthdays (the day she was born and an official birthday in June) and this year the official birthday has been placed… today! Well, kind of. The public holiday that celebrates the official birthday was placed today but the actual celebration of the official birthday is on the 16th of June. So it makes sense that people aren’t clear on this.
Personally I think that it’s odd that they got people from former colonies to perform and the bit that I find offensive is that Happy Birthday (the Stevie Wonder version) was originally for Martin Luthor King (Jnr) and I don’t really see why a song written for a civil rights activist, a man who campaigned for equality, should be sung for someone born in to so much privilege.
It’s nice to see that I can still get grumpy at the same thing that other people are getting grumpy at but for completely different reasons while also getting grumpy at those people for their stupid reasons.
